More than 40 young people participated in Major Taylor Trail Keepers youth programming sessions in June and July. We shared stories from Marshall “Major” Taylor’s life, particularly his bravery and perseverance racing in the early 1900s. We also discussed the importance of work to keep his memory alive and the work of community engagement – giving back, picking up trash, and showing courage in our own lives.

Through interactive activities and group discussions, the students explored topics such as leadership, community service, and respect for others’ rights and perspectives. “Their engagement and curiosity were inspiring, and it was clear the message resonated,” Simone Woods, who leads theses sessions, said afterward.

We’re excited to continue this impactful programming throughout the summer and are eager to expand our collaboration with the Kroc Center and other community partners.
