We are excited to announce the successful launch of Major Taylor Trail Keepers’ first youth program in coordination with the Kroc Center’s After-school program. The segment began the week of April 21, focusing on the theme of citizenship.
Community Relations Strategic Partnership Coordinator Simone Woods spoke with students from fifth through seventh grades to explore what it means to be an active, responsible, and informed member of the community. Through interactive lessons and group discussions the kids learned about topics like civic responsibility, leadership, community service, and the importance of respecting others’ rights and perspectives.
We had a raffle where students received flowers and seeds to plant, Major Taylor wrist bracelets, and Major Taylor tee shirts. Our first few sessions sparked thoughtful conversations, and we discussed real-world examples of good citizenship, and even brainstormed ways the students can contribute to positive change in their neighborhoods and schools.
Thank you to the Kroc Center for their enthusiastic support. We look forward to continuing our relationship to build additional programming during the summer camp session and beyond.
